BiD Hit With Sailors Here
Anyone who knows can tell the
real thing. You won't get an argu-
ment when you tell a shipmate that
Treasure Island's Frosted Malt
Shop is tops in popularity on this
base-especially during the past
week when an unusual heat wave---
having moved in from Nevada-
penetrated a heavy bay breeze,
swept over Treasure Island and
sent "ole man me-rcury" racing up
to 86 degrees.
It was during this week that
nearly 10,000 cones of delicious, re-
freshing frosted malts were sold
daily to the island· bluejackets who
cheerfully stood in line, braving an
almost sweltering heat wave·.
The Frosted Malt Shop, now in
Ship's Service No. 1 where the
telephone booths were previously
located, opened J une 1 of this year
"with a splash", says Ex-Chief C.
E . Root, who heads the managerial
staff of this ship's service activity.
