entation of citations and awards
was made here Saturday, October

of the Armed Guard Center.
Eight bluejackets accounted for
three Bronze Sta rs, one Silver
Star, one Gold Star and three
Purple Hearts. Two Silver Stars
were awarded posthumously. I

awarded the Silver Star for con- '

aboard the USS Ommaney Bay I
J anuary 4.
Jordan was forced from his ship
by fires and explosions after it
ha d been hit by a bomb from an
enemy aircraft. He was instru-

who had suffered injuries of a
serious nature, from the hangar
deck to the forecastle of the ship,
despite heavy, dense smoke and

the water, wrapped a life preserv-

and kept him afloat until both
were picked up by a destroyer.
