                                                                                                                                 Thunderous applause rocked The-
                                                                                                                                atre  No.  1  last  Sunday  afternoon
                                                                                                                               as  another  show  sponsored  by  the
                                                                                                                               Hollyw_ood Victory Committee
                                                                                                                                scored  an  overwhelming  success
                                                                                                                               with  Treasure  Island  bluejackets.
                                                                                                                                 The  show was  headed  by  emcee
                                                                                                                               Jack  Carson,  the  radio  quipmaster
                                                                                                                                and versatiJ.e  film  comedian, whose
                                                                                                                                keen  sense of humor and ready wit
                                                                                                                                delighted the audience from the be-
                                                                                                                                ginning  to  the  end.
                                                                                                                                 Billy  Gilbert,  that  hefty veteran
                                                                                                                               of  many  stag,e  and  screen  produc-
                                                                                                                                tions,  all  but  raised  the  roof  with
                                                                                                                                a  demonstration of his peculiar tal-
                                                                                                                                ents for  the  delayed-action sneeze.
                                                                                                                               Mr. Gilbert is recently back from  a
                                                                                                                                camp  show  tour  playing  at  over-
                                                                                                                                seas camps  and bases.
                                                                                                                                 A  highlight of the show featured
                                                                                                                                Chester Morris,  who  will  be  better
                                                                                                                                known  to  his  flicker  fans  as  the
                                                                                                                                original  "Boston  Blackie,"  giving
                                                                                                                               out with his bag of magic  that had
                                                                                                                                the audience completely baffled. As-
                                                                                                                                sisted  by  his  charming  wife,  Lili,
                                                                                                                                he  turned  thrills  to  chills  in  his
                                                                                                                                hilarious  guillotine  trick,  in  which
                                                                                                                                he affected  a  good-natured  decapi-
                                                                                                                                tation of a  perspiring sailor victim.
                                                                                                                                Chester is one of the country's best
                                                                                                                                amateur magicians  and has  enter-
                                                                                                                                tained  at  more  than  500  camp
                                                                                                                               shows.           ·
                                                                                                                                 Arthur  Treacher,  well-known  as
                                                                                                                                "the  perfect  butler"  as  a  result  of
                                                                                                                                his  many  film  roles  depicting  that
                                                                                                                                character,  injected  his  particular
                                                                                                                                type  of  English  poker-face  humor
                                                                                                                                in some gags that would have made
                                                                                                                                the  censor  jump  out  a  third  story
                                                                                                                               window.
                                                                                                                                 Rounding  out  the program  with
                                                                                                                                the  type  of  entertainment  that  is
                                                                                                                                so  necessary  in  any  show,  before
                                                                                                                                the  Armed  Services or not,  were a
                                                                                                                                troupe   of   feminine   charmers
                                                                                                                               straight  from  the  world's  film
                                                                                                                                capital. This set of lovelies included
                                                                                                                                such  personalities  as  Linda  Scott,
                                                                                                                                who  set  the  audience  tapping  to
                                                                                                                                the rhythms of the can-can;  Doro-
