A new Telephone Center on
Treasure Island where servicemen
can place their calls in comfort
was opened Saturday, September 2
by the Pacific Telephone and Tele-
graph company. The new center is
the third to be put in service on
Treasure Island and is located in
the New Welfare Building. Captain
R. W. Cary, Commander U. S.
Naval Training and Distribution
Center and other notables were
present at the opening.
Attendants will be on duty
during the busy calling periods to
assist the men with their calls and
to provide information. The room
itself is attractive and home-like,
containing, in addition to the
switchboard and seventeen private
telephone booths, many facilities
for comfort, such as lounging
chairs, magazines, writing materi-
als and tables and a compre-
hensive library of telephone di-
rectories for many cities through-
out the country. ·
